Scope

This notice concerns the Metal Scrap Dealer directory. Businesses listed here are responsible for information you provide directly to them. Their contact numbers, websites and WhatsApp accounts are not the directory’s privacy contact.

Information used by the directory

Published records include business names, contact details, websites, service areas, addresses, permit information and assessment scores. Business information can identify individuals, including sole traders. Sources include official registers, business websites, publicly accessible business information and feedback supplied to the directory team.

Customer feedback and correction correspondence may include contact details, accounts of service experiences and supporting documents. Only information needed to assess the experience or resolve the issue should be supplied. Personal addresses, vehicle documents, payment details and unrelated personal information should be removed from material intended for publication. Private customer contact details are not published as part of a rating.

Technical information and searches

Cloudflare hosts and delivers this website. Technical information needed to deliver and protect it may include IP addresses, request URLs, browser information, request times and security or error logs. Search terms form part of the page URL and may therefore appear in browser history, server logs or a link you share. Do not include confidential information in a search.

Purposes and lawful bases

The directory uses relevant business information and feedback to publish useful comparisons, check accuracy, investigate corrections, protect the website and address misuse. These ordinary activities are based on legitimate interests in operating an accurate and secure directory, subject to balancing those interests against individuals’ rights. Information is also used where necessary to comply with a legal obligation or handle legal claims. If consent is relied on for a specific optional use, it must be obtained for that use and can be withdrawn.

WhatsApp and business website links

Clicking a WhatsApp icon or number opens WhatsApp with the selected business as the recipient. The link itself does not send a message. Any message or attachment you choose to send is handled by WhatsApp/Meta and the receiving business under their own policies. The directory does not receive the conversation through this link.

Clicking a business website link opens that website. Check its privacy information before submitting vehicle, identity or payment details.

Google Maps and reviews

The homepage recommendation does not contain an embedded map. Maps remain on business and area listing pages. Loading a page with an embedded Google map connects your browser to Google, which may receive technical information such as your IP address and use its own cookies or similar technologies. Google Maps and review links open Google’s services, subject to its own privacy policy. We do not receive your Google review through those links.

Cookies, browser storage and calculators

The directory’s own page scripts do not set advertising or analytics cookies and do not store calculator entries in local storage. The quote calculator processes the values in your browser; it does not submit them to a business or the directory. Hosting-security features and embedded third-party services may use their own technologies. Your browser settings can manage cookies and stored site data. Opening an external service is a separate interaction with that provider.

Access and disclosure

Public listing information is visible to website visitors. Access to private feedback, correspondence and supporting records is restricted to people who need it for assessment, corrections, security or legal matters. Relevant information may be provided to hosting or support providers, professional advisers or authorities where necessary and lawful. We do not sell private customer contact details to listed businesses.

Retention and security

Personal information is retained only as long as needed for its purpose. Retention decisions consider whether a listing is current, whether evidence is still needed to support a publication or resolve a dispute, and applicable legal obligations and claim periods. Records that no longer need to be retained should be securely deleted or anonymised. Access controls and reasonable security measures are used to protect private information; no online service can guarantee absolute security.

International processing

Cloudflare, Google and WhatsApp operate internationally. Their services may involve processing outside the UK. Their linked privacy notices explain their processing arrangements. Any international transfer for which the directory is responsible must comply with applicable UK data-protection requirements.

Your information rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may request access, correction, erasure or restriction of your personal information and may have a right to data portability. Where processing relies on consent, you can withdraw it without affecting earlier lawful processing. These rights are subject to applicable legal exceptions.

Your right to object

You can object to processing based on legitimate interests. The directory must consider the objection and stop that processing unless it has a lawful reason to continue, such as compelling overriding grounds or the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.

Privacy concerns and complaints

A privacy request should identify the relevant record and explain the concern without supplying unnecessary identity documents. You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office about the use of your personal information: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint. You do not have to waive that right to use this directory.
