Start with the right destination
A car being scrapped must go to an authorised treatment facility. If a collector is involved, ask where the car will be taken and check the receiving facility.
Get a quote you can compare
Describe the vehicle and its condition accurately. Ask for the amount you will receive after collection fees or other deductions, and how long that offer remains valid.
Prepare for the handover
Remove belongings and personal data. If you want to retain a private registration, arrange that before the handover. Ask the operator which identity and ownership documents they need.
Keep a record
Keep the quote and handover receipt. Follow the official DVLA notification steps and retain the confirmation. If the car is destroyed, check the applicable certificate of destruction process.
